This can range from the clarity and accessibility of an academic text, the breezy approach of a how-to-guide, or dramatised using the novelist’s toolkit to reconstruct a real-life event. I will gather and organise all the research we need, write your book, producing for you ideally somewhere between 68,000 and 75,000 words, the wordcount sweet spot for publication (though any book is as long as a piece of string). I will also write you a prospectus to help you find a literary agent.

Writing a non-fiction book is a chance to allow other people to benefit from your passion, wisdom and experience. I will pinpoint the essence of your idea and construct a compelling story or argument around it. Your story will need its own distinct approach and voice, its way of presenting information and insights. Finding the tone of voice is the key to creating any book. I’ll perfect your voice through the hours we’ll spend talking and designing your book in stage one of our process. In fact, I won’t even start writing until I sound like you.

Certainly, I can work from any documentation you provide me, but I also like to use videoed recordings of our discussions.

I want you to be comfortable with all the material that you choose to share. Be assured I will never write anything without consulting with you.

I have experience writing biographies, memoirs, academic books, and reportage.

I have a background in history and the humanities and am used to undertaking research tasks and substantiating ideas and information. If I feel it’s necessary to broaden your own research, we can work out how during the planning stage. In some cases, I may advise a beta read or legal check before we show anyone your book.
